Enero llegó! January is here… and with this, a tiny, tiny dream that I have been nurturing for the last two years and I finally decided to take the plunge.
This humble little dream is a book club of Mexican Icons that we love and admire.
I have been a book lover since I can remember and for the last 15 years I have been working in Editorial Design, mostly Publishing, for newspapers, magazines and, for the last 7 years, Children’s books.
Most of my favorite reads are non-fiction, like business, art, self-improvement, cookbooks, history and, oh yes… memoirs and biographies. And this will be the focus of the MexICONS Libro Club. Inspired by the immensely charming and funny Chelsea Devantez Celebrity Book Club, this corner of Cultura POP will follow in these footsteps but in Spanglish and sometimes in Spanish.
Each month we will read a memoir or biography of a Mexican Icon, and will do a recap on the blog… and you will never know if we have some to join me.
And HOW DO YOU CHOOSE THE BOOKS? Most importantly, I wanted to choose books that are easy to find and are available to purchase in the USA. You will think, why this icon instead of that one? Mostly is availability. There are amazing books in Spanish about Mexican pop icons but hard to find and purchase in the USA, due to imports.
For the recap, maybe a companion piece or a questionnaire of how I felt about the book and, most important, the ICON. Either way, I will keep it fun and light.
So join me in this journey, as we will do a full dive into the man or woman behind the icon.
