Our MexIcons Libro Club has started and the second book is "Mauricio Garcés, historia de un seductor" by Victor Grayeb for the month of February.
This book recaps the life of Mauricio Garcés by his cousin with funny and entertaining annecdotes. Here's a short recapitulation.
Title:
Maurico Garcés, historia de un seductor by Victor Grayeb
Date read:
February, 2023
What drew me to this cover?
Old Hollywood, reminds me of the photographer of the stars, Alberto Herrera or George Hurrell.
Why did I choose this book?
February is Garcés's birthday, also the month of love. And who better to seduce the reader than the most famous womanizer of the silver screen and television.
Other books that could be a crossover?
BOOK: It reminded me a bit to the Andy Cohen's book: Most talkative: Stories from the front lines of pop culture.
MUSIC: Soy tan hermoso, an iconic bop from Mauricio Garcés from the 60's.
FILM: Modisto de Señoras, 1969.
The feeling(s) of this book evokes me:
Love reading the story of Libanese immigrated families in México. I was very aware of his roots, but reading it first hand gave me great pleasure.
Favorite passage(s):
"Antes caballero que galán", which translates" Always a gentleman, before a heartthrob.
Did reading this book change me in any way?
Of course, I have always had a deep love for Garcés since I was a kid. Not necessarily because he is obviously handsome, but because he is always seen like another. And over the years I realized that he was a queer immigrant in México doing his best to make his dreams come through.
Would I recommend this book?
Absolutely! That's why I am in the Libro Club. It is always good to learn about the history, pop culture and lives of ídolos Mexicanos populares.
Thank you for reading with me and stay tuned for the next read...
To Selena, with love
Con amor,
Haydeé
