Cinema Piooner

Our MexIcons Libro Club has started and the sixth book is Guillermo Calles: A Biography of the Actor and Mexican Cinema Pioneer by Rogelio Agrasánchez Jr.  for the month of June.

This book recaps the life of cinema piooner and silent start Guillermo Calles with great stories and amazing pictures. Here's a short recapitulation.

Title:
Guillermo Calles: A Biography of the Actor and Mexican Cinema Pioneer

Date read:
June, 2023

What drew me to this cover?
More than the cover his story. Unfortunately I never heard from Calles, I heard from another silent start Lupita Tovar but his life is fascinating.

Why did I choose this book?
To learn more about silent cinema in Mexico and the border.

Other books that could be a crossover?
FILM: Raza de Bronce, 1927

The feeling(s) of this book evokes me:
Intrigue and to learn more about Silent Film cinema.

Favorite passage(s):
Despite limited resources, he began directing and producing his own movies, and in 1929 pioneered production of Spanish-language sound films.

Did reading this book change me in any way?
To always find a way to make things happen. There's no wrong answers, maybe just talking to the wrong people.

Would I recommend this book?
Absolutely! He represented the tireless crusade to restore the image of Mexicans and Indians in an era dominated by Hollywood stereotypes

Thank you for reading with me and stay tuned for the next read...
