Best Mex Movies of 2022

The annual list of one of my favorite Mexican film critics is out... and here is what to watch during the Guadalupe-Reyes holiday break:

Dioses de México
This documentary film follows the resistance to modernization in rural Mexico. It is a reminder that it is still possible to live in tune with our essence as human beings.

Mamá
The documentary film "Mom" is a dialogue between mother and son exploring their contradictions, knowing and recognizing each other, and reflecting on naturalized violence and its reproduction.

Teorama de Tiempo
The director Andrés Kaiser combines hundreds of amateur films and photographs from the treasure trove of images belonging to his migrant grandparents creating a cinematic firework of analogies.

Huesera
Valeria has long dreamed about becoming a mother. After learning that she's pregnant, she expects to feel happy, yet something's off.

Norte Sobre Vacio
Don Reynaldo is a famous hunter in decline. When his ranch and his father's legacy are threatened, the dynamic of his relationship with his family, his employees, and land will be dangerously shaken.

Oliverio y la Piscina
When something unexpected happens in 13-year-old Oliver's family, all he wants to do is walk away. He takes up residence in a poolside lounge chair and decides there's no reason to move. Ever.

Corazonada
It is inspired by the millionaire robbery at Melate, the largest fraud in the history of Mexico

Zapatos Rojos
Tacho, a farmer, tends to his plot of land as life passes him by. When he receives news of his daughter's death, he travels to the city to bring her body home, and he discovers a world that is alien to him there.

Pinocchio
A father's wish magically brings a wooden boy to life in Italy, giving him a chance to care for the child. However, the two of them have to struggle to find a place for themselves as Italy becomes embroiled in fascism.

Bardo
A renowned Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker who returns home and works through an existential crisis.

And here the list of 2021 is case you missed it:
