The commemorative framework of International Women's Day (8M) is a relevant date that allows us to raise awareness and reflect, as a population, about the social struggle that women have carried out over the years.

In cinematographic and artistic work, women have participated, to a great extent, in the development and consolidation of an industry dominated by men. A task that meant an arduous effort to have a voice and a vote in audiovisual production and, which is now reflected in stories on the big screen.

For this reason, the importance of vindicating the work of Mexican women and filmmakers who have contributed to strengthening and expanding the narrative and cinematographic universe of the country with their stories.

HUESERA
Director: Michelle Garza Cervera
Synopsis: It tells the story of Valeria, a woman who has been trying to have a child for some time. Suddenly, the same night that her pregnancy is finally confirmed, a strange presence visits her. From that moment on, the monstrous creature pursues her, endangering her pregnancy, her partner and the life of her future baby.

TESOROS
Direction: Maria Novaro
Synopsis: Jacinta tells us a story that begins when "los güeros" arrive in Barra de Potosí, a fishing community on the coast of Guerrero, Mexico. With the local children, they put together a gang of kids convinced that all together, armed with a Tablet, some clues and the right map, they can find a treasure that the pirate Francis Drake left hidden in the region four centuries ago. With colorful and exciting images, these children, guided by their own intelligence and curiosity, find the indispensable space of freedom to discover something much more valuable than a treasure chest, leading us to a world of optimism, solidarity and imagination.

RUIDO
Director: Natalia Beristain
Synopsis: Like most women, Julia has seen her life destroyed by gender violence in her country. She searches for her daughter but, along the way, she will find many similar stories.

TÓTEM
Director: Lilia Aviles
Synopsis: Sol, a seven-year-old girl, spends the day at her grandfather's house, helping to prepare a surprise party for her father. Throughout the day, chaos gradually takes hold of the family, fracturing its foundations. Sol will embrace the essence of letting go as a liberation for existence.

EL ECO

Synopsis: In a remote and lonely valley of Mexico, punished by winter and drought, children learn to contemplate death, disease and love. A story about feeling vertigo in front of life, about growing up.

NOCHE DE FUEGO
Director: Tatiana Huezo
Synopsis: In the mountains of Guerrero, the women must find a way to survive and support themselves, in a place where the men must leave their town, in search of better job opportunities. However, the area is controlled by violent drug cartels, so the women dress up their daughters as boys, hoping that this will protect them from drug traffickers. In this environment, Diana is an intelligent and positive girl, who dreams of a better future and devises plans to achieve it. But when she has the opportunity to leave town, a crime links one of her friends and herself, putting all her future and dreams at risk.

NUDO MIXTECO
Director: Ángeles Cruz
Synopsis: Three stories that intersect in the patronal festival of San Mateo, a town of the Oaxacan Mixteca. María buries her mother again, her father rejects her and, in uncertainty and pain, proposes to Piedad, her childhood love, that she go with her.

PLAZA DE LA SOLEDAD
Director: Maya Goded
Synopsis: After 20 years invested in this film proposal, Maya Goded's debut feature, 'Plaza de la Soledad', shows the lives of women who work in the oldest trade in the world. Carmen, Lety, Esther, Ángeles and Raquel are the main voices of the documentary feature film, who through their stories tell how they were relegated from society. The gaze of the photographer Maya Goded contemplates and unravels the lives of her characters, solitary women full of poise and wisdom.
